Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about food-grade hoses, Tri-Clamp fittings, washdown gear, and sanitary equipment for breweries, wineries, cideries and distilleries.

General Food & Beverage Hose FAQs

What makes a hose “food-grade”?

Food-grade hoses are manufactured with FDA-compliant inner tubes, smooth bores, and materials that won’t leach flavours, odours, or chemicals into your product. They are designed for sanitary use, chemical resistance, and frequent cleaning cycles.

What type of hose should I use for Beer, Wine or Cider

Transferring beer, wine or cider:

Brewery and Winery transfers typically use EPDM, Butyl or Chlorobutyl food-grade hoses depending on the product, temperature, and chemical compatibility. Each material excels in different applications.

  • Drinkline
  • Vintner Reserve
  • Vintner Lite
  • Extremeflex Beverage

What about Milk, Oils and Fatty Foods?

Extremeflex Food Grade with Chemivic white rubber tube.

Can I use the same hose for multiple types of beverage production?

Yes — as long as the hose material is chemically compatible with your product and cleaned properly between batches. Many breweries and distilleries use the same hose for multiple lines.

How long should a brewery transfer hose last?

With proper cleaning, storage, and correct fittings, our premium Continental food-grade hoses should last anywhere from 5 years up to a decade. High-temperature exposure, aggressive chemicals, and improper handling can reduce lifespan.

What is the difference between hot washdown hose and transfer hose?

Transfer hose is food-safe and designed for product movement, while hot washdown hose is not food-grade and is built for cleaning floors, tanks, and equipment at high temperatures and pressures.

Tri-Clamp & Sanitary Fittings

What size Tri-Clamp fitting do I need?

Tri-Clamp sizing is based on tube OD, not clamp size. For example:

  • 1.5" Tri-Clamp fits 3/4", 1" and 1.5" tube
  • 2" Tri-Clamp fits 2" tube

We provide sizing guides and charts to ensure the correct fit.

What gasket material should I choose?

EPDM – great all-rounder for beer, wine, and CIP
Viton (FKM) – high temperature and chemical resistance
Silicone – flexible, good for low temperatures
PTFE – excellent chemical resistance

Each has pros and cons depending on product and cleaning chemicals. We stock EPDM as the true allrounder.

Are Tri-Clamp fittings interchangeable between brands?

Yes — almost all manufacturers follow 3A, ISO, and DIN sanitary standards. Brands like Dixon, Alfa Laval, PT Coupling, and Brew Hose accessories are interchangeable.

Washdown Equipment

What washdown hose should I use in a brewery or winery?

For hot water and daily cleaning, choose a high-temperature rubber washdown hose or a hi-temp PVC hose depending on temperature and budget.

What washdown gun should I choose?

Dinga guns are heavy-duty, adjustable spray pattern, and long-lasting.

RB65 (red/blue) handles hot water and has a built-in swivel.

RB35 is ideal for general warm water cleaning.

What length washdown hose is best?

Most breweries use 10 m to 20 m, depending on layout. We can assemble any length up to 50 m.

Hose Assembly & Crimping

Do you assemble hoses in-house?

Yes — all hoses are cut, fitted, crimped and wrapped in our workshop for reliability and safety.

What fittings can be crimped onto my hose?

We most commonly crimp:

  • Tri-Clamp
  • BSM RJT/CIP
  • BSP male
  • Camlocks
  • Custom configurations on request

Can you help me choose the right fittings for my hose?

Absolutely — just tell us what equipment or machine you're connecting to (pump, tank, fermenter, still, bottling line) and we’ll recommend the correct thread or sanitary fitting.

Cleaning & Maintenance

How should I clean my transfer hose?

Use CIP cycles, warm water flushes, or approved brewery cleaners (caustic, peracetic acid, etc.) depending on the hose material. Avoid kinking or crushing the hose during cleaning.

Can I leave my hose filled with product?

No — always drain and rinse hoses after use. Residual sugar or alcohol can damage hose materials over time.

How should I store my hoses?

Hang hoses on a proper hose rack or coil loosely. Avoid sharp bends, UV exposure, tight compression, or being left on wet floors.

Ordering & Shipping

Do you ship Australia-wide?

Yes — we ship to every state and territory, with free shipping on orders over $1500.

Can I get a custom hose built to my exact length?

Yes — all hoses are assembled to order. We have a wide range of options for length, but if you require something not listed - please contact us for pricing

How fast do orders ship?

Most hose assemblies ship same day or next day, depending on workload and complexity.

Can I pick up my order?

Yes — local pickup is available from Tasmania.

What if I ordered the wrong hose?

Because all of our transfer hose assemblies are custom-made to order, we’re unfortunately unable to accept returns or exchanges for hoses that have been ordered incorrectly. Every hose is cut, fitted and crimped specifically for your configuration, so it cannot be resold once assembled.

If you're unsure what you need, please contact us before ordering — we’re always happy to help confirm hose type, fittings, length, Tri-Clamp size, or thread compatibility to make sure you get the correct setup the first time.
